US Lawmaker Condemns Israel’s Detention of Activists

(MENAFN) A leading American legislator strongly criticized Israel on Friday for detaining hundreds of activists, including several American nationals, who attempted to deliver humanitarian aid to the blockaded Gaza Strip, declaring Israel’s conduct unlawful.

“The Israeli government has illegally abducted over 450 participants of the Global Sumud Flotilla, including nearly two dozen U.S. citizens,” Democratic Representative Rashida Tlaib stated on the social platform X.

“We must demand their immediate release and their protection from abuse and torture in Israeli detention. End the siege and genocide of Gaza now,” she emphasized.

Based on recent data from the International Committee to Break the Siege on Gaza, a key organizer of the Global Sumud Flotilla, Israel intercepted and confiscated 42 vessels from the convoy.

This event marks the inaugural occasion where dozens of ships traveled jointly toward Gaza, transporting 532 civilian solidarity activists hailing from over 45 nations.

Israel has enforced its blockade on Gaza for 18 years. Nearly 1.5 million Palestinians in the territory, out of a total population near 2.4 million, remain displaced and homeless amid widespread upheaval caused by Israeli offensives throughout Palestinian lands.
